Interdisciplinary Engineering Design ProgramThe Interdisciplinary Engineering Design Program -- also known as Engineering 498 -- at The University of Arizona provides a forum for teams of engineering students to work directly with industry. Seniors from across the College of Engineering work in multidisciplinary teams to solve design problems identified by industry partners. Starting with customer needs, the teams move through a careful design process culminating in prototype manufacture. The Interdisciplinary Engineering Design Program is a two-semester (eight-month) design course that provides student teams with realistic design experiences carried out with the support of teaching mentors and industry liaisons. The course has its own website, which is currently under construction, at http://design.engr.arizona.edu. SponsorshipProject teams are mentored by engineers from industry and by an industrial sponsor. Sponsorship entails 1-2 hours per week of contact time with the student team. Student teams will deliver a detailed technical design after the first semester, and a design package and working prototype at the end of the second semester. Timeline
