Internships

UA Baja offers High School students in the Tucson area the opportunity to become a part of a vehicle design team through the Internship program.  All applicants are interviewed by a committee and then reviewed for selection.  UA Baja will be offering Internships for 4-6 High School students, freshmen to seniors, in the 2008-2009 academic school year.  The application process will open in September and will close in October.  Selected interns will spend 2-6 hours per week with UA Baja at our team shop working on selected projects and receiving a crash-course in vehicle dynamics.  Expected duration would be October through May.  As it is with our team mentality; previous experience is not necessary, we are here to educate.  While the internship is unpaid in terms of a financial stipend, students will come away with a set of skills that they will not find in the classroom and they will be better prepared for the collegiate environment.  If you have any questions regarding how to apply please contact within.

A typical internship outline would include earning a skill set in hand-drafting, design communication, 3D modeling, basic tool use, power tool use, welding, and part manufacture.

School Visitations

UA Baja has taken it upon them to get the community more interested in science and engineering. The team will begin in the fall semester to visit high schools within the Tucson area. At each school they will give a presentation introducing the team, explaining how the 2008 vehicle was designed and built. Afterwards, the students will witness the 2008 vehicle driving and hopefully, they will have a chance to see it rock crawl. Once the team has visited all of the high schools, they will begin presentations at middle and elementary schools. It is the belief within the team that the younger they are when they become interested in science and engineering; the more likely they are to stay interested.
