Do I Qualify as a Transfer Student?

Transfer students are those who have completed 24 units or more at another institution. If you are transferring from Pima Community College, please refer to this page for more information on transferrable coursework as well as tips for easing the transition process.

How Do I Apply?

1. Complete the paper or online application for the University of Arizona and indicate your intended major in Engineering.
2. Submit official copies of transcripts from ALL previously attended colleges and universities.

   *An official high school transcript must be submitted if you are under age 22 or if you have less than 24 transferable college credits. Students whose names have changed should ensure their current name is included on all transcripts.

3. Pay the $50 (Arizona resident) or $65 (non-Arizona resident) processing fee or waiver. This fee is nonrefundable and nontransferable.

How Will I be Evaluated?

Students apply for admission to the University, the College of Engineering and the desired engineering major using the UA application. Transfer students cannot choose "No Major Selected", they must select a degree program. The University of Arizona and the College of Engineering perform a comprehensive review of all students applying for admission. The College of Engineering will look at the following items in particular:

• 2.5 or higher transferrable GPA (GPA is determined by UA Office of Admissions)
• Transferrable Calculus I credit (If Calculus I, II or III is C, higher grades are required in additional math, science and engineering transfer coursework)

What Happens After I’ve Been Admitted?

Once you have been admitted to the University of Arizona and the College of Engineering, you will need to log in to the Next Steps Center to complete the following:

• ALEKS math placement exam as well as the writing, and second language placement exams if needed
• Follow the instructions for the College of Engineering in the College Orientation section of the Next Steps Center 
• Submit your immunization records. 
• Complete the Transfer Student Academic Preview in the NExt Steps Center

This process MUST be completed in order for you to be eligible to register for classes.

How Do I Register for Classes?

Before you will be allowed to register for classes, make sure your Next Steps process has been completed. Once that has been completed please review the following general registration materials:

• UA tutorial that will help you register and plan your schedule 
• Bookmark UA's Schedule of Classes. You'll refer to this page a lot.
• Use your UAccess account to view/edit your schedule, see important dates and messages from various departments across the university.
• Academic Catalog
• Engineering Academic Programs
• Curricula
• Sending transcripts

How Do I Get Into Engineering as a Current UA Student?

Transfer Students admitted to the UA, but denied admission into the College of Engineering can reapply for admission to an engineering major, or to the College of Engineering and major, after completion of 12 or more credits of coursework within the UA engineering curricula, with a GPA that meets the requirements for advanced standing (see table below) in the requested major. If Calculus I was complete with a C, grades in required supporting coursework must be higher.

Once you have met the requirement listed above, please complete Change of College/Degree Program found on the Changing Your Degree page and return it to the College of Engineering Academic Affairs Office in Engineering 200.
