Building a Lego Robot

In the Introduction to Engineering course, students get to build Lego robots. This is not your average engineering course, it’s much more hands on and gives students a taste of what engineering will involve after graduation.

Summer Engineering Academy

What is SEA?

Summer Engineering Academy is a week-long residential camp held on the The University of Arizona campus. Session I is open to students who will enter grades 9 and 10 in the upcoming fall. Sessions II and III are open to students in grades 11 and 12.

There is a $15 nonrefundable application fee payable to UA MEP, and a $500.00 program fee due upon acceptance into the program. Need-based scholarships are available.

Explore!

Students who attend the Summer Engineering Academy will investigate careers available in engineering. Students will have the opportunity to learn how engineers affect the world every day. They will spend time in the classroom with University professors learning about topics ranging from the fundamentals of aerodynamics to materials used in engineering.

Create!

Students and their teammates will design aerodynamic cars and devices. They will then make models from their designs and test them in a specially built wind tunnel. Students will be trained to use the SolidWorks three-dimensional computer-aided design software. They will also get to visit the Rapid Prototyping Lab. Prizes will be awarded to the best overall designs.

How Do I Apply?

To apply to the Summer Engineering Academy, complete the Online Application by May 3rd, 2013. A program fee of $500 is due upon acceptance into the program.

The following are also required:

Recommendation from your math or science teacher. Your teacher will need to contact Cecilia Gaxiola at 520.621.4018 or gaxiola@email.arizona.edu for the recommendation form.
A copy of your high school transcripts or middle school report card
